Preparing the Set-up
  • Prepare an efficient scenario for the content you would like to deliver
  • Make sure you plan your 40 minute session wisely
  • Start by informing your students about the course of the upcoming session
  • Mute/unmute your students’ microphones when necessary and inform them while doing so
  • Let your students take turns to ask/answer questions
  • Use the Chat function efficiently for student feedback

Preparing Yourself as a Teacher
  • Make sure you look neat and elegant
  • Do a trial run before the actual class
  • Inform your family that you will be on the computer for a live session and take necessary precautions against any interruptions.

Preparing the Environment
  • Sit facing the window or the light source. Avoid any light to be reflected on your screen which will make your face seem darker and your screen shiny.
  • Arrange your computer desktop so that it looks neat and basic. Do not leave any personal files-images-texts on your desktop.
  • Put all relevant session materials in a single folder and name them by date.
  • Make sure you are competent in using all the programs you will need during the session.
  • Check the efficiency of your internet connection. Use your mobile phone’s hotspot function if you need.
  • Keep all material files open. Close all other programs, web pages and e-mails.
  • Turn off your phone’s connection to your computer to avoid ringing of your computer when someone calls.
  • Turn on the silent mode on your phone.

During the Live Session
  • Some students might prefer to turn their video off. Respect that preference.
  • Press the record button at the beginning of the session.
  • Greet the students and start an interaction.
  • If you are sharing your screen turn your own video off so that students can focus on the content.
  • Mute the participants if you are sharing a video and inform them accordingly.
  • Make sure you let students join in by taking turns and unmute their microphones (the one who is speaking) during that time.
  • Share your screen to start a discussion about the content.
  • Use the chat function for student feedback. Read aloud the comments in the chat and let your students know that the chat content is recorded.
  • Ask for student feedback about your session. You might even want to use a survey.
  • Show students the assignment on LMS and give information.
  • Mute or exclude students who misbehave. Please let students know that beforehand.
  • You might let students share their own screen and show and tell their own studies. Please plan that beforehand. Seeing volunteer students might encourage those who feel shy.

After the Session
  • Inform your students about your office hours and let them know when they should contact you for their questions.
  • Some students might fail to join your live session. Please record your session and share the recording on LMS the same day for those students and/or for others to watch later.
  • Send the links of the assignments and session feedback form via LMS. You might send the feedback form via chat during the session for students who would like to fill it out instantly.
